Ginger for arthritis

Ginger contains a potent anti-inflammatory nutrient, gingerols, that is known to impart the distinctive flavor as well as lower inflammatory response.

It has been shown in studies that ginger (both in raw form as well heated) is effective in reducing pain due to rheumatoid arrthritis as well as osteoarthritis. It also improves mobility.

In a study done by Dr. Krishna Srivastava at the Odense University in Denmark, small amounts of ginger were given to arthritis patients for 3 months. The majority of patients showed significant improvements in pain, swelling and morning stiffness by eating ginger daily.

Dr. Srivastava in his study used either 5 grams of fresh ginger or 1 tsp of dried ginger, in divided doses throughout the day. Fresh or dried ginger can be added to stir-fries, curries, soups, or made into tea.
