Pain intensity centre identified

Researchers scientists at the Oxford Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain have identified an area in the brain directly related to pain intensity that can be switched off in patients suffering from uncontrollable pain.

The finding could help detect pain in people with limited communication abilities, such as those in a coma, said Professor Irene Tracey of University of Oxford, whose team made the discovery.
