Dipping a chip a second time may spread disease

According to a research published in Harvard’s Heartbeat Journal, dipping a chip or a cracker twice into a dip may be socially acceptable but medically it comes with its pound of diseases.

Referred to as ‘double-dipping, it can lead to a surge in bacteria and can also contribute in spreading bacterial diseases that spread via saliva, including pneumonic plague, tuberculosis and even legionnaires.

Robert Shmerling, the editor of Harvard’s Healthbeat Journal, said: ‘This research does raise the possibility that a person who is sick might spread a disease by re-dipping a chip.’

The number of bacteria varies depending on the type of dip, with salsa holding more germs than cheese or cheese, the study observed.

Next time in a party – be watchful.
