Health benefits of Jamun (Indian plum)

Jamun, popularly known as the black plum or the Indian plum is a fruit loaded with several nutrients and has many health benefits.

It is a summer fruit with main ingredients as glucose and fructose (sugars) along with minerals. It has fewer calories as compared to other fruits.

It is extremely juicy and sweet and so is good to have in summer.

  • Purifies the blood: Being rich in iron makes it an effective blood purifier. This is achieved by providing oxygenated blood supply throughout the body.
  • Improves digestion: It has cooling properties and so is useful for curing digestive disorders, especially in people who suffer from indigestion and hyperacidity.
  • Refreshes skin and prevents infection: It has astringent property which helps to keep oily skin fresh, smooth and acne free. Many acids in the fruits – oxalic acid, gallic acid, malic acid, tannins, betulic acid, etc. makes it antibacterial.
  • Prevents from seasonal problems: This is due to high levels of vitamin C found in the fruit that helps strengthen the immune system to fight with common seasonal health problems.
  • Beneficial for heart diseases: Black plum contains good amount of potassium that is known to be beneficial in keeping heart healthy and preventing diseases like hypertension, stroke and other cardio-vascular diseases.
