Is the office making you fat?

For most desk workers in the office, it is mostly their behavior in the office that makes them add that undesirable fat.

There are certain things one has to do to make sure that fitness reigns and there is no undesirable weight gain.

  1. Do not skip breakfast: When breakfast is skipped, it leads to lowering of blood sugar and a craving for eating sweet foods and that helps to put on weight. Eat enough breakfast, or if in a hurry have some fruits.
  2. Avoid unnecessary eating/drinking during meetings: Instead, have water or green tea. If it is a mid-morning meeting, have an apple. Avoid biscuits or minimize its consumption.
  3. Manage stress: Stressed individuals tend to put on weight due to altered hormone dynamics. Learn to relieve your stress. Most individuals relive the stress, going from meeting to meetings and always in a rush. Squeeze a stress ball, drink water, take deep breaths or just switch off for just 2 minutes. Lastly, learn to cut down on your assignments; talk to your superior about how much you can do. If nothing works and extreme stress bothers you on a daily basis practice yoga and meditation.
  4. Move: Be active. Do the little things yourself, like getting water/green tea for yourself or getting your prints. Meet your coworkers. Walk the stairs, take a break and if possible go out of office for a quick stroll. Movement all day long is good even if you have had your share of gym in the morning/evening as it helps continuously burn calories.
  5. Avoid erratic eating times: Try to have your breakfast, lunch and dinner in time as you tend to eat the right amounts. Erratic eating hours make you eat more.
  6. While travelling: Maintain your exercise and eating schedule. Usually during long travels exercise and eating tends to gets disrupted. Make conscious effort to stick to your usual regime; else unnecessary intake of food happens.
  7. Avoid frequent pubbing: All those who consume alcohol must be careful about their daily trips to the pub. Alcohol adds up to calories along with the junk food you invariably end up eating.
  8. Watch yourself: Weigh yourself at least once a month and if you are gaining weight then revisit the above 7 tips. Your health and wellbeing is in your hands and you have to make conscious efforts to remain healthy in this fast-paced world.

As you would have realized from the above, it is not exactly the office but your behavior and your ability to manage it that makes you to gain weight or not. It’s not fair to just blame your work or workplace!
