Picture of calorie content of food kills appetite

According to a study in U.S, seeing pictures of food with calorie information not only make the food less appetizing but also appears to change the way the brain responds to the food.

When foods were seen with calorie information, the brain showed reduced activation of the reward system and increased activation of the control system; this means that the food that you would have otherwise eaten becomes less desirable one the calorie content was seen.

The study that was published in PLOS ONE is the first of its kind to examine how the brain makes food choices when calorie information is presented.

In the study were involved 42 undergraduate students between the ages 18-22 were shown 180 images of food without calorie information followed by images with calorie information and were asked to rate their desire while in a functional MRI (fMRI) scanner.

The finding clearly showed that images with calorie information did kill the appetite.

The outcome of the study helps both ways; the employee expect calorie information so that they can choose what they want to but it appears that they eat much less than they would otherwise. The information can be used by employers to inculcate good food habits in their employees.
