Sugary drinks ups risk of heart failure in men

Just drinking two glasses of sweetened drinks daily can put men to a higher risk of heart failure, a new study has found.

Regular consumption of sweetened drinks has been associated with changes in blood pressure, insulin levels, and inflammatory markers, as well as weight gain factors implicated in metabolic syndrome, diabetes, coronary heart disease and stroke.

42,400 men aged between 45 and 79 were monitored between 1998 and 2010 by researchers in two counties of Sweden when 3,604 new cases of heart failure were diagnosed, and 509 people died of their condition.

The final data analysis indicated that consumption of at least two glasses of sweetened drinks daily was associated with a 23% risk of developing heart failure compared with no consumption.

Avoid sweetened drinks if men want to reduce their chances of developing heart failure.
